Siding and Columns

SIDING and COLUMNS

At Friel Lumber, we carry quality siding, columns, and trim. We have the national brands to fit your project’s budget and design. You could be residing your home or building a new one, we have exactly what you need. Many times it is the vast options that can leave homeowners in a conundrum on what siding to use. It’s important to take in our Maryland climate. We are the state of all seasons. With humid summers and some snowmageddons, we get some extremes. Siding is your first defense against outside elements. To help you out, here are some popular siding options.

Vinyl Siding

Vinyl is a very popular option and comes in a variety of colors. It is also very durable, budget-friendly and low maintenance. No wonder it accounts for the majority of all exterior wall materials on homes. The only real downside is that panels need to be overlapped, causing noticeable seams. Popular vinyl colors in Maryland are gray, blue, and beige. Friel carries brands like Foundry, Georgia-Pacific Vinyl Siding, James Hardie, and Mid-America Building Products.

Wood Siding

Wood is aesthetically pleasing and easy to cut. It is often used in a mixture of other siding materials or as a feature on part of the house. The most common wood used is cedar. That is because it is bug, rot, fungi, and mildew resistant. It requires cleaning twice a year and regular inspections for any termites and moisture. With proper care, it can be minimal maintenance. It might not seem like an eco-friendly option, but actually, cedar is the best choice if you go with wood siding. Cedar takes very little processing and treatment. It is also a great insulator.

Fiber Cement

Made from a mix of cement, clay, sand, and wood pulp, this is a very stable siding. It is also low maintenance and accepts paint very well. It can be molded into just about anything, from wood and shingles to stucco and bricks. Fiber cement is resistant to varying temperature, therefore no expanding and contracting with humidity levels. It is also fire-resistant and termite proof. The major con to it is that is just heavy. Make sure you know how to install or have the right contractor when going with fiber cement.

At Friel Lumber, we have vinyl, cedar, and fiber cement siding. We also have engineered wood, panel, metal and more. Make sure that you contact us to learn what products we carry. We also have fiberglass, PVS and wood columns.
